Behind the scenes...
The Year 2000 Australian Swimsuit Calendar shoot was very different from
anything that we have attempted in the past. One major factor was the choice of
photographer. The idea was to try a new and fresh approach to swimsuit calendars, while
still keeping it sexy and attractive. The job went to talented Brisbane-based photographer
Dean Saffron. Dean is actually more of a "photo artist" than just another
photographer. His vision was to create an exciting world inhabited by stunning calendar
babes surrounded by mysterious creatures such as the "mud people". While still
featuring one model per month, Dean wanted to insert some of the other models into the
shots like props. He simply wanted to use the sensuous body shapes and curves of
the vivacious models to add extra dimensions to the shots.
Dean told the models about his vision and his plans regarding
wanting the models to go semi-nude in the background the first night. After everyone had
freaked out a couple of times, a few of the girls actually volunteered
.!
The shoot took place at Mission
Beach in Tropical North Queensland on Australias East Coast. We felt so incredibly
welcome and were totally impressed with the friendly and "nothings a problem
mate" North QLD attitude. The only factor working against us was the weather. We felt
we had more than our fair share of gray skies and rainy days, but like true professionals,
we soldiered on and eventually got everything we wanted in "the can". |
